Each year in April, 911 operators and dispatch teams are honored with a National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. This year, we wanted to do even more to say thanks to these valued heroes who play such a vital role keeping the public and their team members safe. Every day, they're assisting callers and assuring them that help is on the way. Since it can be a stressful job, we introduced the Relaxation is Calling Getaway featuring four $750 gift cards to The Omni Hotel Grove Park Inn & Spa in Asheville.

To participate, our client dispatch team managers submit a nominee who they feel has gone above and beyond over the past month. From those nominees, a random spin drawing determines the monthly getaway winner. Two winners have been announced for May and June while two more are coming soon in early July and August.

Our May and June winners are Holly Thomas with Cherokee County and Alyssa Whitcomb with Pickens County.

“Holly Thomas, recently promoted to Dispatch Manager for Cherokee County E911, has quickly become a driving force in our agency,” said Josh Patterson, E911 Director for Cherokee County.  “With a strong background in emergency communications and a passion for public service, she hit the ground running—leading key initiatives to modernize operations, improve team performance, and enhance service delivery. Her leadership has brought a renewed sense of energy and direction to the dispatch center, and her commitment to excellence continues to make a meaningful impact on both our staff and the community we serve.

“Alyssa Whitcomb was a vital part of the team at the Table Rock Complex Fire, as well as an all-around great employee,” said Susan Freeman, Communications Coordinator for the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. “Alyssa is always picking up overtime and helping out where she is needed. She is an experienced Communications Specialist and also recently became EMT certified. Alyssa has such a giving heart for this community, and I could not be more proud to have her on our team.”

While Holly has already taken her Relaxtion is Calling Getaway, we look forward to hearing soon from Alyssa as well. Holly said she had an “absolute blast” and that the resort was an “amazing experience.”

“It was such a great refresher,” said Holly. “Dispatch can be incredibly stressful at times, so this opportunity was truly appreciated more than you know.”
